Non-Surgical Cosmetic Procedures

Injectable and energy-based treatments, with candid advice on what these can and cannot achieve.

Overview

Non-surgical treatments can soften lines, restore volume, improve skin texture and produce modest tightening, with little or no downtime. They do not remove loose skin and do not reproduce the result of surgery. Being clear about which of those two categories a particular concern falls into is the most useful part of the consultation.

Common treatments

  • Neurotoxin injection — relaxes the muscles that produce expression lines of the forehead, brow and eye area; also used for jaw contour and for excessive sweating.
  • Hyaluronic acid injection — restores volume and supports contour in areas of facial hollowing, using products chosen for the depth and mobility of the area treated.
  • Skin booster — micro-injections of hyaluronic acid to improve skin hydration and quality rather than to add contour.
  • HIFU — focused ultrasound delivered to the deeper layers to produce gradual tightening of mild facial and neck laxity.
  • M22 — a light- and laser-based platform used for pigmentation, redness and vascular lesions, and for general skin quality.
  • CO2 laser — ablative resurfacing for texture, fine lines, scars and certain skin lesions, in fractional or focused modes.

Consultation & planning

Assessment covers skin type and sun exposure, previous treatments and any product injected elsewhere, medical conditions, medication and allergies, and what specifically is being asked for. Where a concern needs surgery to be properly addressed, or where the honest answer is that a treatment will make little visible difference, that is said before anything is booked. Treatment is carried out by the doctor.

Recovery

Injectable treatments take fifteen to thirty minutes with immediate return to normal activity; small bruises are possible and settle within a week. Neurotoxin takes three to seven days to begin working and lasts approximately three to four months. Fillers give an immediate result that settles over two weeks. HIFU has no downtime, with tightening developing over two to three months. Laser treatments involve redness and flaking for several days to two weeks depending on depth, with strict sun protection afterwards.

Risks & considerations

Risks include bruising, swelling, asymmetry, and an unsatisfying or short-lived result. Neurotoxin can cause temporary eyelid or brow droop. Fillers carry rare but serious vascular complications, including skin necrosis and, very rarely, visual loss — the reason injection should be performed by a doctor familiar with facial anatomy and equipped to manage a complication. Energy-based treatments carry risks of burn, pigmentation change and scarring, higher in darker skin types and with recent sun exposure. All of these results are temporary and require repeat treatment to maintain.
